Like this David vs. Goliath match-up of coincidental roughing penalties on Nov. 2 -- Bakersfield's Justin Chwedoruk, all of 5-foot-9 and 170 pounds, gave up a few inches and pounds to Victoria's Kiel McLeod (6-6, 235). Or check out the plus-minus bonanza enjoyed by Reading defenseman Shawn Germain on Oct. 20. He clocked in at plus-6 in a 6-4 win at Johnstown. Talk about your statistical aberration -- Germain is a combined minus-1 in 12 other games. At least he's not Augusta's Eric Lundberg, the defenseman who authored a minus-5 in a 6-3 loss at Columbia on Nov. 2. To be fair, Lundberg is merely a combined minus-1 in nine other tilts.

Fisher or Richt. That's a tough one. "It really does seem odd when hierarchies in sports are set up so transitions are already in place before they actually occur," McGuirk said. MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- At 7:45, the rising sun had barely cleared the gray Atlantic horizon, but the thermometer on our condo balcony registered a balmy 68 degrees. Looking down from six stories above the wide white beach that extended miles in either direction, I spotted a school of maybe 20 wet-suited surfers circling slowly beyond the break line, waiting for the next long wave to come rolling in. Feeling a surge, seven started stroking to the beach. Finding sufficient momentum, three popped to their feet and mounted the breaking swell. One caught the curl perfectly and got a 15-second thrill ride all the way to the beach for her trouble. Not too shabby for mid-December. North America's Atlantic coastline from the North Carolina-South Carolina border south to Winyah Bay is collectively known as the Grand Strand, a broad, largely unbroken crescent of white sand stretching some 60 miles.
Scouts pack for Cub-O-Ree
RAPID RIVER — The Cub Scouts and Webelos of the Redbuck District will hold their annual Cub-O-Ree Saturday at the Rapid River stockyards. The Rapid River stockyards are located just north of Rapid River, and the location entrance will be signed on US 2 & 41. The day will be full of outdoor winter fun activities. Each Redbuck pack attending will host an event, so there will be numerous fun activities. Event stations: Snowshoeing, Relay Race, Walk the Line, Tied in Knots, Ski Team, Maze, Peanut Walk, and Atomic Bomb. In addition events which are just for Webelos are the Catapult and Webelos Tracking. Each Pack in the Red Buck District helps out by running a station. The Boy Scouts in the area will also be helping out. The cost is $4 for each registered Cub Scout (the cost includes the award plaques and a portable restroom).
