Chief: Officer abused power
A Corpus Christi police officer fired Friday bought a seized truck for about $10,000 less than its real value and visited one of its owners in jail to negotiate the sale, Chief Bryan Smith said in a disciplinary letter. The officer, 22-year veteran Senior Officer Martin Jasso, was fired Friday after he was accused of abusing his authority with his involvement in vehicle sales at the city's impound lot, the letter said. A Corpus Christi Police Department captain and lieutenant also are under investigation and were put on paid administrative leave Tuesday. Smith wouldn't comment Wednesday and has said he will make an announcement at the end of the week. He detailed allegations against Jasso in a letter sent Friday to the city's Civil Service Commission and Human Resources Department.

The level of activity or stress that provokes the angina attack is somewhat predictable, and the pattern changes only slowly. Instead of appearing gradually, unstable angina may first appear as a very severe episode or as frequently recurring bouts of angina. Or, an established stable pattern of angina may change sharply; it may by provoked by far less exercise than in the past, or it may appear at rest. In 1997 429,000 hospital discharges were patients with unstable angina. Although it causes few deaths, unstable angina precedes myocardial infarction in 20% of cases and usually provides an opportunity to intervene before irreversible damage is caused. Effective identification and treatment of unstable angina patients may protect against heart attack and death. In addition, improved cardiovascular function can lead to a better quality of life and successful treatment can also control pain associated with this syndrome.
Fit people a health system burden
So why do larger people often die young of a heart attack? I think this is a wee bit on the false or made up side. I know heaps of smokers who live longer than healthier people, larger people as well. I think it's peoples life styles as well as what they smoke or eat that then produces a earlier death.
