Maybe they were embarrassed when they tripped the night a scout was watching.Lincoln rookie Jared Festler recalls his first shift of the regular season as a huge eye-opener. Yes, a league newbie learns quickly that no matter how good you thought the league you played in before was — it wasn't. Every player in the USHL was an all-star on their last team."In high school I'd be able to skate end-to-end and score by myself, but you would never be able to do that in this league," said Tyler Kieffer, just before the rookie was traded by Lincoln to Everett (Wash.) of the Western Hockey League.For many, the USHL is their first taste of the demands of the real world. One night, you've scored two goals and are singing country tunes with your buddies, and the next, the coach is telling you to clean out your locker.But should you survive the rigors of the league, the rewards are great.
Police looking for two men in killing at Detroit cleaners
The Detroit Police Department is continuing to search for two men wanted for a fatal shooting at a dry cleaning business Wednesday. The 58 years old victim and his wife were inside the dry cleaners in the 17500 block of James Couzens about 2:30 p.m. when both men entered and announced a robbery. One of the men approached the wife to take her purse. The victim attempted to defend his wife and was shot, dying from his injuries. .

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) - A 20-year-old Bakersfield man is facing charges after police say he fired a gun at bouncers when he was asked to leave a bar. Officers arrested Jesus Murillo early yesterday morning on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. Police say he pulled a gun and fired at three bouncers when he was asked to leave. No one was hit by the gunfire. The bouncers subdued Murillo until police arrived. BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) - Kern County supervisors will consider a proposal to increase by thousands of dollars a contract with an accounting firm that audits county departments. Supervisors are considering calling for an audit of all county departments every two years. They are also pressing for a backlog of department audits to be caught up by the end of June. During their meeting tomorrow, supervisors will consider increasing by nearly $175,000 a side contract with Brown Armstrong accountancy to help county staff complete the work.
