But last month, Mia Turner told the North County Times that the idea that her late father had drugs in his home at the time of his death was "an out and out" lie.The news that cocaine played a role in Ike Turner's death was surprising and disappointing to band mates who had performed with him in recent years."I really thought that was something he was finally able to put past him," saxophone player Leo Dombecki said. "I'm sure that will go down as another strike against the guy."Bass player Kevin Cooper also said he thought Turner had long ago put his illicit drug use behind him."It sucks, that's for sure," Cooper said. "What could have driven any man into doing that, especially at that age? It just seems unreal, completely unimaginable."Cooper was the music director on Turner's 2006 album "Rising with the Blues," that won a Grammy last year.
Microsoft's tardiness for documentation extends DOJ oversight to 2009
Scathing words yesterday from the federal judge overseeing Microsoft's compliance with its antitrust decree, accompanied an order that effectively extends the DOJ's oversight period into the next US presidential administration. Apparently agreeing with the European Commission's assessment that Microsoft has yet to provide adequate documentation for its communications protocols, US District Judge Kathleen Kollar-Kotelly issued an order yesterday extending the Dept. of Justice's oversight period for the company by two years, until November 12, 2009. .
Giants Are All Talk, No Action
As a transplanted Canadian, I speak from experience when telling you that you should be thrilled at the chance to get Rios. He is about to explode. He's got the speed to swipe 25-35 bags (the jays put the stop sign on everyone). He is without a doubt, one of the five best defensive RF in baseball, and has been terrific in CF (his natural position) whenever he has played there. He is an instinctive baserunnner, he has improving plate discipline, and legit power. You guys are such unqualified homers, talking about Cain and Lincecum as if they are already carving their busts in Cooperstown. They are both very intriguing young pitchers with upside, no doubt, but ease up on the rhetoric. I have watched a ton of games of both teams, and this looks like a trade that could help both teams. I have very baseball-knowledgeable friends in Toronto that can't believe the Jays are contemplating giving up Rios (a 2-time allstar) in this trade for a unproven pitcher with a troubling delivery.
