Doug Smith's Raptors blog

Tic-tac-toe. The Spalding moved creatively. Open shots were swished. And by the end of the night, the Raptors had scored 41 field goals, 31 of which came with assists. Toronto's best offensive weapon, duelling playmakers Jose Calderon and T.J. Ford, combined for 23 of those helpers against just three combined turnovers. And so despite some early nonchalance – and a 12-point first-half lead that was whittled to a four-point advantage at intermission – the Raptors, coming off a home loss to an L.A. Clippers squad they probably should have defeated, turned what should have been a blowout into a certifiable walkover, 105-82.

"You can't get much better out of your point guards," said Sam Mitchell, the Toronto coach. "We've just got to continue to do that. You can never pass enough.

Chief takes leave prior to retirement

Czajkowski said the reason for the leave is family medical issues. Duffy couldn't be reached for comment.

Cpt. Norm Morehead is overseeing the 28-member police department in Duffy's absence, Czajkowski said.

The board of supervisors was notified of Duffy's paid leave during an executive session Wednesday, Czajkowksi said. Because it's an administrative function, the board did not vote on the matter, or discuss it during the public portion of the meeting, he said.

Nip and tuck

Plastic surgery is now becoming more accepted in Malaysia. What do you need to look out for?

By Dr ALICE PREMITHA MICHAEL

FIFTY years ago, you had to do it in secret the subject was considered taboo. Eventually, the rich and the famous took the lead and elected cosmetic surgery as somewhat of a prerequisite to all the glory.

Today, seated at a nook in Delicious, youll hear bits and pieces about whos had their latest rendezvous with their own not-so-hunky version of Dr Troy for a little nip and tuck.

While there are no current figures released by our Health Ministry to depict how many cosmetic surgery fanatics are in your neighbourhood, the mushrooming of many institutions and centres that offer such services speak volumes. The trend has been building up a storm in recent years.

Mitt Romney Campaign Postmortem

The collapse of Mitt Romney's bid for the presidency brings the inevitable question: What went wrong? Michael Luo gives a pretty good explanation.

If Mr. Romney's campaign were condensed to one of his trademark PowerPoint presentations, it would have had all the bullet points foretelling success: a multimillionaire candidate willing to relinquish his fortune to run, an unsettled Republican field and a candidate whose championing of conservative positions could motivate the party's base.

Yet Mr. Romney's advisers acknowledged Thursday an array of tactical missteps and miscalculations. Perhaps most significantly, they conceded that they had failed to overcome doubts about Mr. Romney's authenticity as they sought to position him as the most electable conservative in the race, a jarring contrast to his more moderate record as governor of Massachusetts.
