Calling out for a hero

Modise resigned from SABC3 last week, hopefully her replacement will continue with the good work. But, back to the finale. Ever since flaky artist Isaac painted those mushroom clouds over NYC canvasses, we have known what was in store, and Wednesday is the night. No spoilers, but expect quite an overview of the whole season as we plunge forth into the end-is- nigh territory. As if he hasn't got enough on board, Peter discovers he has another power, while Hiro, who has never really accepted his new life, finally lays his superhero lot on the line. There are heart-stopping moments and bullet-stopping moments - yet another new power for someone So, will the cheerleader finally fulfil her promise and "save the world". We're saying nothing.

Smoking ban brings mixed opinions in Carroll

Maggie's has been fighting this kind of ban for 10 years, he said. But Scott Beck, owner of E W Beck's Pub in Sykesville, said the ban will bring in new business."I think on the short term it may negatively affect us, but in the long term, it will probably be positive," said Beck, who anticipates the ban may make his restaurant more family friendly and attract many of the area's young residents."We have people that won't come out because it's too smoky," he said.Beck said he will try his best to accommodate the smoking clientele. Before the ban goes into effect, a door that will access an outdoor patio will be added to the restaurant. The plan is to eventually have the patio covered and heated, Beck said."I think some of the bar business might decline, but people don't come to a bar or restaurant to smoke.

Britney Spears Granted Access To Children

Kevin Federline has allowed Britney Spears to visit their two sons pending the approval of her mother Lynne, claim reports. A U.S. website claims that the troubled singer – who was recently released from a Los Angeles hospital, where she was treated for severe bipolar disorder – is allowed to visit Sean Preston, two, and one-year-old Jayden James, while Federline attends New York Fashion Week. "K-Fed and Lynne get on really well," claims a source. "He hopes Lynne can bring Britney round to see sense so that she can have some face time with her kids. "He knows however dazed and confused Brit gets, she’ll always love those two kids with all her heart." Meanwhile the Gimme More singer’s father, Jamie, has made more moves in court to control the singer’s affairs.

L U D H I A N A S T O R I E S

Accused was booked under Section 302 of the IPC at the Dakha Police Station, on April 26, 2004 following the complaint lodged by his father-in-law, Chaman Lal. Reetu, wife of the accused, was the main prosecution Witness in this case.

According to prosecution, the accused wanted that the marriage of his younger brother be fixed with his wifes sister.

While his in-laws were not interested, as there was a big gap between Parveens brother age and that of the girl. So, they refused to give their consent for marriage.

Accused could not swallow the rejection of the marriage proposal made by him. Thus he started ill treating and harassing his wife.

Later on, he left her at her parents house. On April 26, 2004, Parveen went to her parents house and abused them.

In a fit of anger, he attacked his mother-in-law, Sudesh Rani, with the sharp edged weapon, which he was carrying along.

Maple Leafs turning to Cliff Fletcher?

Even worse was Maurice. I thought he was going to cry during his post-game scrum. HNIC's Scott Oake and Kelly Hrudey said it right - it was painful to watch. Unless, of course, you revel in human suffering – or hate the Maple Leafs.

It's time to make a decision. These guys don't deserve this anymore. Make a commitment to them, or fire them. Even if they were jettisoned, they'd probably be relieved.

Nightbares at our rail stations

The Pakenham line is the most dangerous, recording a fifth of all rail crime, police data compiled for the Sunday Herald Sun reveal.

Commuters can expect unruly behaviour, assaults, fights and vandalism on Sydenham, Frankston, Epping and Werribee lines.

But Alamein and Melton lines are among the safest. Individual stations, including Merlynston, Moonee Ponds, Murrumbeena, Upfield, Oak Park, Spotswood, Williamstown Beach and West Richmond had the least trouble.

Between October last year and this month, police recorded 1327 crimes on trains and at stations. Victoria Police data show violent thefts and assaults have soared across the network. Robberies between July and this month totalled 197 -- a 41.7 per cent jump.

And assaults rose by almost a quarter to a total of 745 offences across all 209 metropolitan stations.
